Water damage, particularly from contaminated sources such as sewage backups or flooding, can leave bacteria and other contaminants behind even after the visible water is gone. Apex Restoration Services provides infection control and disinfection services in West Brooklyn, IL, treating cleanliness as a distinct step from drying rather than assuming a dry surface is automatically a clean one.
Our disinfection process begins with identifying which surfaces and materials were exposed to contaminated water, since not every water loss carries the same level of contamination. Clean water from a supply line is treated differently than water from a sewage backup or floodwater that may have picked up outdoor contaminants along the way.
For contaminated losses, we clean and disinfect affected surfaces using appropriate cleaning agents and methods suited to the material involved, whether that is flooring, walls, or fixtures. This step is completed before or alongside drying, since sealing contaminated moisture behind drywall without addressing it first does not resolve the underlying issue.
Infection control also extends to protecting unaffected areas of the property during the cleanup process, since contaminants can spread through foot traffic or airborne particles if the work area is not properly managed. We take steps to contain the affected area so cleanup does not create new problems elsewhere in the property.
Apex Restoration Services has provided infection control and disinfection services across West Brooklyn, IL for 15 years, recognizing that some water losses require more than drying alone to make a space safe again. Call 1 (877) 264-5920 to discuss disinfection needs for your property.
Not every loss requires the same level of disinfection. Clean water losses need less intervention than losses involving sewage or floodwater, which carry more contaminants.
Yes, cleaning and disinfecting contaminated surfaces is typically done alongside or before drying, since sealing contamination behind materials does not resolve the issue.
